Episode: #12 "The Shrieking Madness"

The episode opens in Campus Burger where some students are arguing over the merits of horror writer HP Hatecraft. A fan of Harlan Ellison, claims the horror author is a hack and far inferior to his favourite novelist. He leaves the cafe and is accosted by a huge creature that looks for the world like the Hatecraft Mythos monster, Char Gar Gothakon (which has more than a passing resemblance to Cthulhu).

The next day the gang (now estranged from each other) show up at campus - all with a different purpose in mine. Fred goes to see his father old wrestling obsessed fraternity, Daphne hooks up some political radicals, Scooby+Shaggy go to Campus Burger while Velma attends a Harlan Ellison lecture. The famous writer insults local author Hatecraft and is interrupted by a fanatical horror fan who loves the Mythos novelist. The fan who is named Robert E. Howard storms out in disgust. Soon after the lecture is interrupted as Char Gar Gothakon crashes in and trys to attack Harlan Ellison. His screams attract the Gang and they join up to solve the mystery.

They find a clue at the scene - a fishy smelling copy of the Hatecraft novel 'The Beast That Hath No Name'. They decide to visit the author who explains to them that he fears that he may have opened a portal to another world. When Char Gar Gothakon attacks again later, Hatecraft feels guilty and comes clean about his books, claiming that he made up all the stories and they aren't based on real creatures. Just then Char Gar Gothakon appears and chases HP to his old mansion with the Gang in pursuit. They follow the creature to the rooftop where it has Hatecraft trapped. In the confusion, the monster slips and is roped by the Gang. They unmask it, revealing the fan Robert E. Howard who giving them a very unlikely explanation.

The episode ends with Hatecraft and Elison proposing a join book together and the Gang deciding to work together again (plus a teaser for the next episode.

Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated (originally known as Scooby-Doo! Mystery, Inc.) is the eleventh incarnation of Hanna-Barbera's Scooby-Doo animated series, and the first incarnation not to be first-run on Saturday mornings. The series is produced by Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network and is a reboot of the franchise.

The show is a lot darker and a lot more fun than the previous reincarnations and is worth checking out for these reasons.
